As NEET 2025 approaches, it’s crucial to prepare not just academically, but also to manage your exam time effectively. Today, we going to share insights that could potentially change the way you approach your NEET exam, specifically how to deal with the 180 questions in 180 minutes scenario. It’s not just about solving questions quickly, but about avoiding the common pitfalls that can cost you valuable marks.
Why Is Time Management Crucial for NEET 2025?
In NEET 2025, you will have 180 questions to answer in 180 minutes. However, let’s consider this: it’s not exactly 180 minutes of pure answering time. You will have various activities during the exam that will consume a chunk of this time. This includes filling out your OMR sheet, signing attendance sheets, and the time spent by invigilators checking your personal details. All of this could amount to about 20-25 minutes, leaving you with much less time than you might expect.
Let me walk you through a real-life example that we came across after NEET 2023. A student shared their experience with us. After attempting 152 questions, the student’s score was 608. However, when checking the paper at home, they realized that 6 questions were incorrect. Their revised score was 602. The student also mentioned 28 remaining questions—16-17 of which they were doubtful about, but 11 questions they were confident they could solve. Had they attempted these 11 questions correctly, they could have increased their score by 44 points, bringing their score up to 646.
Now, imagine this: with a score of 646, they might have gotten into their dream medical college or at least a better chance of securing an MBBS seat. This brings us to the main point: managing time efficiently during the exam could make a huge difference in your results.
How External Factors Can Affect Your Performance?
The reason this student couldn’t attempt those 11 questions was not due to their knowledge but because of external factors in the exam environment. The student mentioned that the anxiety and panic created in the exam hall often cause a waste of time. The invigilators take time to check details, and by the time you settle down and get into a rhythm, precious minutes have passed.
As aspirants, we need to be aware of these time drains. It’s essential to realize that many students, when under pressure, tend to panic, leading them to waste time on questions they could easily solve. This is where strategic preparation comes in—preparing your mind to not only handle difficult questions but also manage the environment and distractions that might arise during the exam.
How to Prepare for NEET 2025 Effectively
If you are a NEET 2025 aspirant, there is something crucial you need to do in your preparation—adjust your time expectations. Instead of aiming for 180 questions in 180 minutes, I recommend training yourself for 180 questions in 160 minutes. This will account for the time lost during the start of the exam, including filling out your OMR sheet and other administrative tasks.
Whenever you practice mock tests, especially at home, set a timer for 160 minutes, not 180. This will help you mentally adjust to the reality of the exam day and reduce the anxiety caused by the time pressure.
Mock Tests: Your Secret Weapon
Mock tests are an essential part of NEET preparation. But here’s how to make them even more effective:
- Simulate Exam Conditions: When you practice, replicate exam conditions. Give yourself only 160 minutes for 180 questions, and include breaks for things like filling out your OMR sheet.
- Practice with a Timer: Set a timer for 160 minutes and stick to it. This will help you manage your time better and get used to the stress of the real exam.
- Analyze Your Mistakes: After every mock test, carefully analyze the questions you struggled with. This will help you identify patterns in your mistakes and give you areas to improve.
- Review Short Tricks: For difficult topics, use short tricks to solve questions quickly. Plenty of videos and resources, such as the ones I’ve uploaded for Genetics and Evolution, explain complicated topics with simple tricks.
Additional Resources for NEET Preparation
Along with mock tests, I have provided free resources to help you in your NEET preparation. These include:

Conclusion
The key to success in NEET 2025 lies not only in your knowledge but in how well you manage the time during the exam. I encourage all of you to adopt the strategy of aiming to complete 180 questions in 160 minutes. Train your mind to handle distractions and external pressures efficiently.
Remember, your goal is to solve as many questions as possible while managing your time wisely. With consistent practice, the right resources, and the awareness of potential exam-time pitfalls, you will be better prepared to crack NEET 2025 and secure your spot in your dream medical college.
