NMC (National Medical Commission) New Guidelines for MBBS Abroad 2024

The National Medical Commission was earlier known as the Medical Council of India. It is the regulatory body for medical education in India. There has been an increasing trend among Indian students to pursue an MBBS degree abroad. The new NMC guidelines for MBBS abroad have simplified the entire procedure. Under the new NMC guidelines for MBBS Abroad 2024, Indian students who want to pursue MBBS abroad must qualify for the NEET Exam conducted by the National Medical Commission. The NEET Exam is considered a compulsory entrance exam for all MBBS aspirants in India. This rule is also applied to students who want to study MBBS abroad. To get admission to any foreign medical university, students are required to obtain minimum qualifying marks in the NEET Exam.

Recognition of Universities –

The National Medical Commission has provided a list of some universities that have received recognition. Students are advised to select the universities from this list to ensure their medical degree is recognised by the National Medical Commission in India. After completing their MBBS degree abroad, Indian students are required to pass the FMGE Exam to practice medicine in India. The FMGE Exam is also known as the MCI screening test. Applicants must apply directly to the University of their preference and follow the guidelines before selecting any university. Students must do thorough research before being admitted to any university. They must ensure that the World Health Organization accredit it. Foreign medical universities are inspected and evaluated to maintain the quality of education.

NMC New Guidelines for MBBS Abroad –

  • According to the National Medical Commission, the MBBS course abroad should be at least 54 months, including an internship of at least 12 months in the same medical university. Otherwise, the medical degree obtained will not be considered valid in India.
  • Any foreign MBBS graduate will have to cover some specific subjects, such as General Medicine, Community Medicine, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Casualty services, and lab services.
  • As per the NMC rules for mbbs abroad, students must make sure that all theoretical, practical, and clinical training they receive meets the requirements of the Indian MBBS program.
  • According to the new NMC guidelines for MBBS abroad, Indian students aspiring to pursue MBBS abroad must pass the NEET Exam.
  • Candidates need to check the year of establishment of the medical university. If the university is newly established or its establishment is less than ten years then such a medical university should be avoided.
  • The entire MBBS program, training, and internship shall be done outside India in the same foreign medical university throughout the study.
  • The University must have English as the official medium of teaching.
  • Students have to compulsorily complete a twelve-month internship at the hospital run by the same university.
  • The students who complete MBBS from foreign medical universities should take the National Exit Test conducted by the NMC.

The new NMC guidelines for MBBS abroad aim to ensure that Indian students receive quality medical education. Medical universities abroad need to comply with these guidelines to ensure that their MBBS programs fulfil the high standards of the National Medical Commission.

As per the latest NMC guidelines for mbbs abroad, the NEXT Exam will replace the FMGE Exam for obtaining a medical license in India.
