The Need for FMGE for Indian Students Pursuing MBBS Abroad
Before making a preparation plan, it is important to comprehend why Indian students pursuing MBBS abroad must take the FMGE Test. Graduates of highly esteemed international medical schools would not be eligible to register and practice medicine in India unless they passed the FMGE exam. To obtain a license to practice medicine in India, foreign MBBS graduates must pass the FMGE Test.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicant must be an Overseas Citizen of India or an Indian citizen
- He/She should have received an MBBS degree awarded by an accredited medical university outside India
- The medical university abroad must be included in the World Directory of Medical Schools
- If the foreign degree requires an internship or clinical rotation, the same must be achieved before enrolling
- The applicants are required to submit a provisional or degree certificate that must be attested by the Indian Embassy
Who Cannot Enrol?
- Candidates who have received an MBBS degree in India (the FMGE Test is open to foreign graduates only)
- Applicants who fail to meet the NMC accreditation requirements at their foreign university
- Students who have not completed their MBBS studies, i.e., are still pursuing medicine in foreign countries
