Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (IKBFU) used to be called the University of Königsberg way back in 1544. After World War II, the city of Königsberg became part of Russia and was renamed Kaliningrad. So, the university changed its name to Kaliningrad State University. Then, in 2005, it got the name Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University Kaliningrad to honour the famous German philosopher Immanuel Kant.
