MBBS Student Life: The Joys and Struggles Every Medical Student Faces

MBBS Student Life: The Joys and Struggles Every Medical Student Faces
The journey of medical school is not easy; the way students go through it and the way they complete it are very different. This journey is full of victory and hardship, discovery and disappointment, fulfillment and frustration. Students have to make many sacrifices, and in this regard, they often sacrifice their enjoyment the most.

The Academic Struggle

MBBS students life with its heavy syllabus from the first day. Medical literature and the entire MBBS syllabus put students under stress right from the beginning. If we examine the study hours of students, we find that a typical MBBS student studies for 12-14 hours daily, and even after that, they do very little because the MBBS syllabus is as vast as a mountain.
In comparison to MBBS, students who study other professions have to study a few major subjects per semester, but medical students study many heavy subjects at the same time because they need to pay attention to every small detail, like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, and microbiology; all these subjects have to be understood in detail. Hence, becoming a doctor is not an easy task because the lives and the responsibility of future patients are in the hands of a doctor.

Financial Burden & Expectations

MBBS Students who study MBBS in their own country or go to another country to study, due to the high fees, face the biggest burden in their financial problems because MBBS is very expensive, and for middle-class students, there are even more problematic. MBBS students have to face many problems due to a low budget. Students have to face problems like tuition fees, laboratory equipment, living expenses, and other personal expenses.
And this becomes even more difficult for female students when they have the burden of their family expectations on them, and due to this reason, the students start having a fear of failure.
Family expectations can be a boon for students, but along with that, expectations can also put students under stress. Because everyone is afraid of failure, and when people start trusting you too much, the stress of failure increases even more.
Therefore, to avoid this, all the students should keep themselves as stress-free as possible and try to reduce their stress as much as possible. Take out some time for yourself also, go for a walk in some new places, stay on holiday and in nature, and stay away from bad habits like alcohol and smoking.
Students get so stressed in the beginning that they try to overcome these stresses by drinking alcohol and smoking, and then they get addicted to all these things. So to overcome your stress, travel, do new things, balance things, and make good friends. Your goal should not only be to become a good doctor but also to become a good human being.

Clinical Years

The most adventurous moment for a medical student is when he enters the hospital ward for the first time. During your clinical years, your education is a process of transforming theoretical learning into clinical practice, where you get the opportunity to practice your knowledge with real-life patients under the superior guidance.

However, clinical rotations bring with them a lot of problems, in which students often have to work long hours from morning to evening, and also have to stand for long periods of time, which exhausts the students physically and mentally. The way of interacting with patients is also not easy; in this phase, the students get to learn a lot of new things.

Relationships & Sacrifice

Personally, students have to make a lot of sacrifices in medical school. They do not get time to meet all their school and childhood friends, due to which they start experiencing loneliness. Due to this, their relationships also suffer a lot, due to the constant stress of studies and syllabus, it becomes difficult for the students to give time to their relationships and their partners. Due to this, they even break up, and because of this, they get into more stress.
Although students get the opportunity to make new friends in the university and in their batch, it takes time to make new friends and relationships, and some students who are introverted face a lot of difficulty in making new friends.

The Joys Activities

There’s also the privilege of being able to trust people at their most vulnerable moments. Patients share their fears, hopes, and stories with you, allowing you to see both human frailty and resilience. The gratitude in a patient’s eyes when you help them get well or the relief on a family member’s face when you give them good news provides an emotional reward that is greater than any paycheck.
MBBS student life is not that easy, but it is also not the case that there is no enjoyment in student life. If students want, then they can make their life an adventure venture despite the stressful environment of MBBS.
