NMC Approves Additional Super-Specialty PG Seats for 2025–26 via Appeal Process

NMC Approves Additional Super-Specialty PG Seats for 2025–26 via Appeal Process

The National Medical Commission has approved multiple seats, including additional postgraduate super-specialty seats, following appeals from colleges for the upcoming academic year. A total of 16 medical colleges submitted requests for increased super-specialty seats for the 2025–26 session after earlier allocation decisions by the commission. Based on these appeals, the NMC will assign 15 PG super-specialty seats to 14 colleges.

This development also aligns with the broader expansion of MBBS seats in India, as the commission continues to strengthen medical education capacity at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

These appeals will support the following:

  • March 24, 2026, NMC board meeting.
  • Academic year 2025-26.
  • 25 additional PG super-specialty seat requests.

What Does This Mean For Students?

The NMC has confirmed this will be an official document for the current/continuing PG Counselling process. The counselling authority does not have to wait for a formal Letter of Permission (LOP) from the institutions-they can use these seats right now in their counselling.

For NEET-PG aspirants who are still working through the super-speciality counselling cycle, this is very significant. Additional officially sanctioned seats are now available, which means greater opportunity for students to secure admission into high-demand specialties like Cardiology, Neurology, Urology, Neurosurgery, etc., at either a government or private institution.

The Letter of Permission (LOP) for the newly sanctioned seats will be issued by NMC rapidly, and the updated seat matrix will be shared with the MoHFW, MCC, and DGHS for the current counselling round.
